Lt. Shaila Jain is an astronaut with a troubled past stationed at a mining station on Mars. Lt. Thomas Weatherby is an honest English gentleman, an officer on the HMS Daedalus sailing the oceans of Earth and the empty void between the Known Worlds. Shaila Jain’s investigation into a sudden rash of siesmic disturbances (Mars is dead, it is not supposed to have earthquakes!) and the Daedalus’ pursuit of a murderous alchemist may have more in common then the sudden and mysterious appearance of Lt. Weatherby’s journal (a journal that appears to be writing itself) two paths that could lead to the spetacular collission of two very different worlds.
