The mission of the Friends of the Downingtown Library is to promote and support the programs and operations of the library through a variety of fundraisers, most notably the semi-annual book sales, as well as through community outreach. In 2022, the Friends contributed $19,000 to the Downingtown Library.

Friends Update – Spring/Summer 2023
The Friends’ Spring Book Sale was an overwhelming success, beating all expectations. Our increased proceeds are our way of contributing to the continued excellence of our Library. It’s been exciting to see, again, how the community supports this bi-annual event.
Friends’ book sorting begins as soon as donations start coming in. Volunteers in our Downingtown Schools solicit contributions, as well, to insure our vast selection of children’s books. From the start, we can count on help from the Borough, especially the Parks Department and Minquas Fire Department for the setting up. Staff members give invaluable assistance through their ideas, help, and advertising widely for the Sale. High School volunteers also assist in this tremendous effort.
Attendance at this Book Sale was overwhelming, from the start on Friday evening right through Sunday. Sales continued through the following week and then on to our ever popular Bag Sale. Our Book Sales are an all-hands-on-deck event to benefit our Library, and this one was no exception.
Many residents support the Library by means of their Friends’ membership. This ranges from individual and family memberships to more active roles at meetings and book sale times. Each of these is evidence of sincere interest in our Library’s well-being. Many thanks to JoAnn and Michelle, our Book Sale leaders; to Staff members who lend their assistance throughout; to all our volunteers; and to each and every Friend.
