Friends of the Library

The mission of the Friends of the Downingtown Library is to promote and support the programs and operations of the library through a variety of fundraisers, most notably the semi-annual book sales, as well as through community outreach. In 2022, the Friends contributed $19,000 to the Downingtown Library.

Many patrons support us in our mission by becoming a Member of the Friends. Some do this simply by becoming a Member. Others do this by becoming more actively involved, attending meetings and helping at events. Either way, you can be one of the many who support the Downingtown Library.

Membership forms are available at the library’s front desk.
Another way is to click on the link below and download a copy of the membership form.

Friends Update – Spring 2024

The Friends’ Book Sales are our primary means of contributing to the continued excellence of our Library. It’s been exciting to prepare, again for this bi-annual event.

Book sorting for our April sale began as soon as donations start coming in, mid-March. Volunteers in our Downingtown Schools are soliciting contributions, as well, to insure our vast selection of children’s books. From the start, we can always count on help from the Borough in broadcasting news of the Sale. The Parks Department and Minquas Fire Department provide help for setting up the displays. Staff members give invaluable assistance through their support and encouragement and by advertising widely for the Sale. High School volunteers contribute their help and enthusiasm in this tremendous effort. Our Book Sales are an all-hands-on-deck event to benefit our Library, and this one will be no exception.

The Spring Book Sale begins Friday evening, April 12th, lasts through Sunday, and then continues on through the following week. Finally there is the ever popular Bag Sale.

Residents of Downingtown support the Library Friends in various ways. Some do so by means of Friends’ membership. This can be in the way of individual or family memberships or can be on the more active level of attending meetings and helping with book sales. Each of these is evidence of sincere interest in our Library’s well-being.

The Friends are grateful to JoAnn and Michelle, our Book Sale leaders; to Staff members who lend their assistance throughout; to all our volunteers; and to each and every one of you, our Friends.
